***an audio note from dad after I shared with him some of the ways i know my path is aligned with my souls desires.
Here’s how this essay ends: the ground beneath you is the right path. It always has been. The confirmations will come, sometimes in whispers, sometimes even in pain, and often times for me through the power or song.
Confession: I’m a passionate reminiscer, a devotee of nostalgia. I revel in the emotions and tangible tokens of the artistry from times before.
This love for the past is both a blessing and can be a curse; it has led me to recognize when I tread the same ground again and again, weaving through another layer in the sacred spiral of existence. It’s an inevitable dance, yet we have the choice to navigate the path under our feet with a fresh perspective, and who knows where that fresh perspective will take us.
Detours are encouraged on the mystic journey.
Questions will arise (they always do) : Am I in the right place? The right relationship? The right this and that? Each query serves a purpose, guiding us on our grand journey from mere fate into the realm of destiny. Yet, some of these inquiries feel weary and uninspired, like the archivist who gets lazy and doesn’t protect his record collection and they get deep groves or scratches in places where once was pure melody.
If you find yourself standing on familiar ground, know that something has drawn you there—something essential to learn within that relationship, in that place, in that moment.
If you share my belief in a loving universe, it becomes clear: every experience, every encounter is what we ourselves have called in to awaken. Yes, the good, the bad, and most especially the ugly.

The path is made “RIGHT” by how we walk upon it, whether the ground is familiar or foreign. The soul has a way, a certain GPS that always autocorrects itself and turns its inner questions into an outer reality. In this way we can move closer to destiny and allow what is before us to be the way.
This dusty earth beneath my dog printed shoes is my home and has been for the past few years.
I have tasted great love here, felt the electric heat of soul-stirring sex, savored tender moments in nature’s embrace. I’ve drifted in reverie, taught classes and courses, welcomed friends into my sanctuary, and faced pain so raw it left me bare. I’ve known the sting of vulnerability hangovers, the tangled mess of lovers’ quarrels, and the sharp edge of family disputes. I’ve felt like an outsider, yet also found myself woven deeply into this place, each moment departing from the foreignness until it feels like home.
Yesterday, a piece of the puzzle clicked into place, sparked by the consistent magic and synchronicity music brings into my life. After a farm tour, my partner’s dad—who is a whole experience—played a song for us. It was prompted by a woman who had remarked, in her own words, that everything God or nature creates seems to work seamlessly, while many things touched by man tend to unravel, if its not connected to divinity and truth.
This was the song by Reverend Al Green.
From there we went on a gospel tour and he mentioned one of my Mom’s favorite gospel singers and he played a few songs. I thought to myself what are the chances that this jewish man from Canada would be so well acquainted with gospel music and in particular this gospel artist.
It felt like such a wink and nod from my Mom as the anniversary of her departure from this world is coming up. On Wednesday, it will have been 10 wild and confronting years.
I’ve grown so much. From a maiden into a mother. A steward. A tender. A person who cares deeply for the well being of those around me.
Here are a few things that keep my perspective fresh as my feet take me where they know I need to go.
