Major news alert! UCLA's defense is getting a significant boost with the commitment of safety Malik Hartford, formerly of Ohio State. This is a move that could reshape the Bruins' defensive lineup.
Malik Hartford, a transfer from Ohio State, is bringing his talents to UCLA. He spent three seasons with the Buckeyes, gaining valuable experience. While he was a backup during his first two years, an injury this season limited him to just four games, but this allows him to have two more seasons of eligibility.
During his time at Ohio State, Hartford recorded 20 tackles and defended three passes.
Coming out of high school, Hartford was a highly-touted prospect. He was a four-star recruit with a rating of 96, placing him at No. 69 overall and No. 5 among safeties nationally. However, things didn't quite click for him at Ohio State, and now he's a three-star transfer with a rating of 86.
But here's where it gets interesting... UCLA is already stacked at the safety position. They've also brought in Ta'Shawn James from Iowa State and Tao Johnson from Utah, not to mention retaining Scooter Jackson and Cole Martin.
This raises the question: How will Hartford fit into this crowded safety room? Will he compete for a starting spot, or will he need to fight for playing time?
