In a remarkable turn of events, the GB News app has emerged as the fastest-growing news application in the United Kingdom, according to the latest figures released by Ipsos iris.
The data reveals a staggering 94 percent increase in the app's user base compared to the previous year, positioning it as the leader among all media applications across the UK. This impressive growth is not just about numbers; it reflects a significant shift in how people are consuming news today.
Additionally, the statistics indicate that during November alone, users engaged with the GB News app for over 10 million minutes, averaging about 74 minutes per individual. This high level of engagement illustrates that users are not just downloading the app—they are actively watching live broadcasts, catching up on missed content, and engaging with various clips from GB News while becoming integral members of the GBN Community.
Moreover, the month-on-month growth rate is equally notable, standing at an impressive 36 percent, which surpasses other well-known competitors such as Google News and The Guardian.
Geoff Marsh, the Chief Content Officer of GB News, commented on this impressive trajectory: "Over the past year, we have witnessed a significant surge in individuals choosing the GB News app as their primary source for quality content. This platform consolidates everything that GB News represents, allowing our audience to quickly access the bold and unapologetic journalism that characterizes the People’s Channel. Furthermore, the app facilitates a seamless experience for viewers on the go, making it easier for them to incorporate news into their daily routines. We have exciting enhancements lined up for the coming months to make the app even more appealing to our users."
This surge in popularity follows closely after GB News solidified its status as the leading news channel in the UK. Recent BARB data indicates that throughout December, the People’s Channel not only surpassed Sky News and the BBC News Channel but consistently led the market during the preceding months of July through November as well.
From 6 AM to 2 AM last month, GB News boasted an average audience of 87,700 viewers, significantly ahead of Sky News at 58,300 and the BBC News Channel at 74,500.
But here's where it gets intriguing—what does this growing preference for GB News say about the changing landscape of news consumption in the UK? Is audience loyalty shifting in ways that favor niche or alternative news sources over traditional giants? Share your thoughts below!
