In a thrilling Formula 1 season, the 2025 title fight left one driver, Oscar Piastri, just shy of the ultimate glory. But here's the twist: McLaren's team boss, Zak Brown, believes Piastri doesn't need to feel defeated.
The McLaren duo, Piastri and Lando Norris, battled it out across 24 races, with only 13 points separating them at the end. Despite an impressive seven race wins each, Piastri's lead in the first half of the season couldn't be sustained, and a dip in form saw Norris snatch the title in Abu Dhabi.
"He is a future world champion," Brown asserted, praising Piastri's performance. "Both our drivers won seven races and supported each other. It's a tough sport, and sometimes luck plays a part."
Brown's words of encouragement for Piastri are a testament to his belief in the driver's talent. "He shouldn't feel down. He won seven races and led the championship. Of course, he's disappointed, but there's no reason for him to feel defeated. He just needs to refocus and go for it again."
The team's strategy of letting their drivers race freely, even allowing Piastri to make an audacious pass around Norris in Abu Dhabi, is something they plan to continue. "We've learned a lot this year, and we'll refine our approach. We want to give our drivers equal opportunities and let them race."
Norris' title win marks a significant milestone for McLaren, their first since 2008 when Lewis Hamilton dominated.
And this is the part most people miss: despite the disappointment, Piastri's future looks bright. With Brown's backing, he's poised to challenge again. But here's where it gets controversial: should Piastri stay at McLaren, or is a move to a different team the way to go? What do you think? Let's discuss in the comments!
